My mama always told me,
“boys are like buses, there’s one along every 15 minutes.”
Whenever I’m feelin’ blue about my oh-so-single life, I always think about what my mama taught me. When some guy treats you bad or things didn’t work out, don’t dwell on the past—just click clack your stilettos right on to the next stop in this crazy ride we call life.
Now I don’t mean to sound like a cold-hearted beeyotch, but sometimes comparing boys to buses helps to heal a Band-Aid needin’ heart.
Speaking of heartbreak, ladies, here are some steps to get over those boys that we can’t live with and can’t live without.
Step 1: have a nice, long cry.
I am a firm believer in the power of crying. Contrary to some belief, crying does NOT make you weak or unstable. Sometimes it helps to just go to a quiet place and cry. Cry hard, and cry like you mean it. After you are done, you’ll feel so much better.
Step 2: talk to you friends and/or family
If they love you, they’ll let you vent…and you’ll be surprised at how great they are at listing his bad qualities.
Step 3: throw him away
Get rid of the things that remind you of him. That t-shirt he gave you, all the movie ticket stubs you’ve saved…if you aren’t faint of heart, just throw them away. I will shamelessly admit that I have a shoebox dedicated to each of my exes in my attic at home. No empty shoeboxes at hand? Sounds like an excuse to go shoe shopping to me ;)
Step 4: retail therapy
Go splurge on that new dress you’ve had your eye on, or just take an hour and pamper yourself with a spa treatment. It’s important to feel good in body, mind, and spirit…and I don’t know about y’all, but shopping certainly helps!
Step 5: put on your lipstick and get back out there
There’s no doubt that getting over heartbreak takes time. Take the time that you need, but at some point you have to be willing to get back out there in the game. If you are like me, make sure you have your lipstick on…it always gives me that extra confidence boost.
Step 6: new love?
Okay, now this step is totally optional. You may decide that single life is exactly what you want! And if that’s the case, you go girlfriend! But there is nothing wrong with doing a little flirting now and then or dating a new guy. Just remember that you are special, beautiful, and downright amazing whether you have a man in your life or not.
And last of all, remember to always keep your heels, head, and standards high.
xoxo, y’all
Catherine
